Here we are at the end of the Christmas parade. Included here are Martha with Sailor Man, Susan with Blitzen, and local groomer Becky Harwood with Midnight. The first 2 years have been very exciting. We have had great success as an animal hospital, which has enabled us to expand our efforts in important civic outreach activities.
One of our most outrageous support efforts involved Relay for Life and cancer awareness when Dr. Burr's alter ego, Dolly McGolly, was a contestant for the Womanless Beauty Pageant. Back by popular demand, Dolly was a contestant again in 2006 (event took place 4/29/06). This time she also represented the Georgia Mountain Fair and the Towns Co. Lions Club. Dolly was a big hit playing her banjo during the talent portion (picture below). She finished 1st Runner-up and helped raise over $13,000 to help fight cancer.
The 2nd Annual Easter Bunny Benefit for the Humane Society Mountain Shelter was held at LCAH on 3/24/07. All proceeds (donations) went directly to Humane Society Mountain Shelter. Families had their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny. This event was for all the family especially the furry ones. Becky Harwood, a local groomer, did a great job again as the coordinator and it was certainly lots of fun for all. Falconer Ed Figueroa brought Skylar his red-tail hawk and other wildlife friends. Pet portrait artist Carol Gay demonstrated her craft. Hospital tours and pet health Q&A sessions were provided by Dr. Burr. It was great fun for the whole family, and for a very good cause. Thank you for coming and supporting your humane society in 2007.
We just completed our 2nd Annual Halloween Costume Party held on 10/27/07. All proceeds went to the John Todd Jr. Memorial Good Samaritan Fund. This is an established fund that is available to help needy families who have an injured or ill pet but lack accessible funds for treatment. We had great attendance with many pets and families all dressed up for Halloween, and the community was again very generous in their support. Everyone had lots of fun, especailly the kids and the 4 legged family members. Awards were given for several best costume categories and everyone was a winner. We will be posting pictures soon (go to the Special Event page for pictures of the 2006 event) .
