Nutritional Diets:
We offer only the best veterinary diets. Pricing is kept low to encourage clients to feed their furry family members with the very best diets possible. All aspects of health are effected by the nutritional status of our patients.
Two brands are featured and kept in stock at the animal hospital: Purina Veterinary Diets (Pro Plan) Royal Canin Veterinary Diets
We also use special prescription diets to help treat several medical conditions which are maintained in stock or can be drop shipped.
Royal Canin has recently introduced new diets that are formulated to address specific breed predisposed conditions such as osteoarthritis, obesity, skin, urinary to name a few. We are now able to link unique diets to specific breeds to help prevent breed specific conditions. This is a major research and development breakthrough that we are very excited about, and these diets are now available only through LCAH.
Dentistry Services: Now that dogs and cats are important members of the family and are living longer than ever before, dental disease has become the #1 health problem. We offer state of the art dental care that includes ultrasonic scaling, polishing and fluoride treatment. The fee structure is variable and based on body weight and the indiviual dental condition of each patient (i.e. whether routine or extensive cleaning are required, antibiotic fillings or sealants are necessary, and/or extractions must be done). Please contact us by phone or email for your pet's individual needs and subsequent costs.
Note: all prices are as of 03/14/08

This page needs a nice diversion. Here is Susan Burr, Dr. Burr's lovely wife and LCAH Hosptital Administrator (i.e. The Boss), posing with a client's winter artistic creation we named the Ice Cat.

Heartworm Preventatives:
Heartworms are very common in this area because of the climate with all the bodies of water that provides an ideal environment for mosquitoes that transmit heartworms to pets. Fortunately, many dog owners practice heartworm prevention. However, we need to do a better job of educating cat families that feline heartworms is a significant problem in this area too. I have diagnosed fatalities in cats due to heartworms. Year-round heartworm prevention is recommended in our area. Below is the list of available products and pricing. For multi-pet households, discounts are provided.

Advantage Multi is available for dogs which prevents and/or controls fleas, heartworms, hooks, rounds and whipworms. Pricing is similar to Revolution.
Flea and Tick Control:
Fleas are a major parasite for dogs and cats and cause many problems especially skin allergies. Ticks are also a major concern primarily for dogs in this area because of all the woods and brush here in the mountains. Year-round flea control is recommended, especially if your pet is prone to flea bite allergies. Only year-round control assures that your environment will be free of immature stages that will hatch out when we have warm spells even in the fall and winter. Below is the listing of the recommended products and pricing for our area. Again multi-pet households can receive discounts.

Flea collars are essentially useless. However, there is a tick collar that is very effective = Preventic. Each collar approaches 100% efficacy in killing all the ticks dogs may contract in our area, and lasts for 3 months. Preventic collars are great companion products for Advantage Multi or Revolution.
Revolution (Heartworm and flea preventative) is available for dogs and cats too (see pricing under Heartworm products). Advantage Multi (Heartworm, fleas and major intestinal worms) is available for dogs.
Note: all prices are as of 3/14/08
There are 2 new flea products. Promeris is a new flea and tick control product for dogs and flea control product for cats. It is exciting because the active ingredient is a brand new chemical which fleas have never seen, therefore resistance is not an issue. Some of the other older spot-on products are beginning to show some resistance issues according to some sources. Comfortis is the first monthly oral flea control product for dogs, and it is effective against adults and the premature stages (eggs and larvae). It has the fastest kill action of any product and is therefore recommended by veterinary dermatologists for dogs with flea bite allergies. Many clients seem to prefer this oral flavored tablet over topical spot-ons. Promeris is priced similar to Frontline, and Comfortis is priced similar to Advantage and Advantix.
